East of eden audio book download11/29/2023 ![]() ![]() A journey into youth’s tortured parental burdens. He also didn't try to impose much accent on the voices of the Trask men which allowed Lee's accent to standout which felt appropriate.Įast of Eden, by John Steinbeck, and narrated by Richard Poe. He was spare with emotion, allowing the listener to see how closed these men were with their own emotions. Richard Poe perfectly narrated this book. I will certainly visit the Trask family again. At the close of the book I was deeply sad to leave them behind and I find myself thinking about them often during the days that have followed. I saw in them all the things I see in the people who populate the real world. Adam, Charles, Aaron and Cal became my neighbors. Steinbeck has written each of them a profound and subtle touch which made me feel as though I truly knew them. They are people who will make you think and feel. You will both like and detest each of them. They are people you will find compassion for. What I will say is this: the characters are deep, complex, real, and flawed. I have no great insights into the Bible and am wholly incapable of doing more than mention to that aspect of the book. I won't be talking about the Cain & Abel theme. Or, perhaps, I was simply an idiot who denied herself a deliciously beautiful story! There are many wonderful reviews of this book that will talk about the symbolism and allegory found here. Perhaps I thought it wouldn't stand the test of time. Perhaps I thought it would be too difficult to enjoy. Perhaps I thought this classic would be dull and boring. I do not know why I have never read this book. ![]()

Hot pot buffet11/29/2023 ![]() Our favourites were the shrimp meatballs, mushrooms, sweet potato noodles and the fish balls with fish egg stuffing. You can go as adventurous as you like with beef aorta, duck blood or gizzards or you can get hand pulled noodles, pork rolls, chicken and prawns. Meat Barbie comes in either pork or wagyu beef and we choose the wagyu beef. Memory Tongue are famous for two things: meat Barbies and the giant sesame rice ball. Both of these soups taste quite similar to each other (next time we will order a milder one but it's hard to tell what the soup is like because there are no pictures of the soup which most hot pot restaurants have). We tried the lychee flavoured spicy soup and the "Soul Catching Spicy soup" that both have the Chongqing hot and numbing Sichuan peppercorns. ![]() Located on the second floor of the Chatswood Interchange (just near Gram) it is a spacious upmarket Chinese Chongqing hot pot restaurant with lots of booths. It makes the BEST hot pot dipping sauce for everything! Mix 3 tablespoons peanut sauce, 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce, 1/2 tablespoon sesame oil, 2 tablespoons of chilli oil (make sure to get 1 tablespoon chilli oil and 1 tablespoon of the chilli flakes at the bottom), 1 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander, 1 tablespoon spring onion, 1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic, 1 tablespoon sesame seeds and 1 teaspoon sugar. ![]() Hot pot is all about fishing things out of a soup pot and you may end up getting splashes on your clothing.ĥ - The hot pot sauce station is usually a few dollars more per person but it is worth it.Ħ - The Best Hot Pot Sauce: if you find the hot pot sauce selection daunting take note of this sauce recipe that Laura got from TikTok. ![]() I find that if I leave it in the soup it gets lost.ģ- If your soup runs low ask them to fill it up with hot water.Ĥ - Don't wear your best clothes. We once made the mistake of choosing two spicy ones at a restaurant and while it was delicious we really prefer the contrast between mild and spicy.Ģ - The thinly sliced meats are very quick to cook-often you can just hold them in your chopsticks and dunk them into the boiling soup for 20 seconds or so. I had no shortage of people willing to come along and Mr NQN and Laura were the ideal candidates for this mission as both love hot pot.ġ - We like trying two types of soup bases and like to select a mild and a spicy soup. Hot Pot is popular in many countries especially across Asia and in this story we are trying Chinese, Korean and Hong Kong style hot pot. Winter is hot pot season to me and there's nothing more satisfying than sitting in front of a bubbling cauldron of soup and fishing out something tasty from the broth. Hot pot can also be a hot vessel or small pot holding something deliciously warming. Hot pot originated in Asia and is basically soup in a pot in which you cook a variety of foods. This food tour is brought to you by Willoughby City Council ![]() Come along for the ride and discover 5 delicious hot pot restaurants! As the temperature drops and Winter takes a hold what better way to warm up than with some delicious hot pot! We take a hotpot tour of Chatswood travelling around the world trying hot pots from different countries! Some are extravagant and offer surprises and extras while others are cheap and cheerful. ![]()

Radiant floor heating systems efficiency11/29/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() You should also use weather responsive controls to lower the supply water temperature when employing this application to avoid high temperatures shocking the system. Proper installation is critical and seemingly evasive. These sounds occur when the required high temperatures come into contact with cooler plates. There is a long history of underfloor aluminum plates making irritating expansion noises when turning on the system. Radiantec and other radiant heat transfer plate systems result in much higher lifetime operating costs due to the hotter water temperature required to heat the room. In contrast, an efficient radiant floor heating system like Thermalboard will save you thousands of dollars in energy costs over the lifetime of your building. Put simply, a high supply water temperature requirement will lower the system’s efficiency, since it must work much harder to maintain a comfortable level of heat. The heat from the boards makes direct contact with your floor resulting in the fast and efficient delivery of comfortable radiant heat.Įxample: Thermalboard only requires a supply water temperature of 108☏, compared to an underfloor aluminum plate system, which requires a whopping 145☏ water temperature for the same heat load! Our radiant heat panels are covered in a layer of highly conductive aluminum and are installed above the subfloor, rather than below. Additional heat is lost downward as it fills the floor cavity.ĭue to their inefficient design, underfloor systems require far higher water temperatures than Thermalboard. The heat generated from the water in the tubes must overcome the resistance of the poor conducting subfloor. Underfloor heat transfer plates sandwich PEX tubing against the underside of the floor. Understanding the Poor Efficiency of Radiant Heat Transfer Plates Our panels are constructed with highly conductive aluminum that is installed directly beneath the floor - resulting in greater efficiency and a much faster response time. Slower Response Timeīecause the PEX tubing is so far away from the floor, it takes much longer for heat to travel to your hardwood, carpet, or tile. It is far easier and faster to install Thermalboard on top of the subfloor rather than beneath it. While the aluminum plates may only cost $1 / sq.ft, installing this type of system properly is extremely labor intensive. ![]() Underfloor heat transfer systems are often promoted to the DIY market because the components by themselves are relatively cheap. Because the tubes are installed in the floor cavity, wasted heat also travels downward where it remains trapped beneath the subfloor. Heat travels from the tubes and must penetrate first the subfloor layer, and then up through the floor. Underfloor heat transfer systems are installed beneath the subfloor. ![]()

Yelp jobs security officers11/28/2023 ![]() ![]() We pride ourselves on promoting from within, and as a result we give some leaders the opportunity to do so for the first time in their career. We're sorry to hear that your overall experience was anything less than what you had hoped for. Those who are not performing are typically pushed out to another manager - more. Those that perform get rewarded with more accounts which allows for more opportunities to sell the program so do not be fooled by those top sellers, they have more opportunities exponentially. Very few managers actually care for progression, they took out the human aspect of the job and will push you to get numbers. Managers will also not approve "do not call" requests so you will eventually see the same accounts come through and have to call again. Managers will tell you to continuously keep calling even after you are told no. The script is very fluffed to make it seem like the program is going to fulfill the business "need" which leads to the belief the program will work better than it actually does but it is a slow burning program that may work. You deal with a lot of businesses owners who have tried the program and felt like they were lied to. The downside is there is very little training for managers to deal with the mental aspect of the job. ![]() Working with a team is great, everyone is quite supportive between reps on a team, met some great people and friends. If you have a good manager, the job is bearable. Monthly health/fitness stipend, caregiver and educational stipend which is great.ĭay to day, you are expected to make 80 dials, a lot of pressure from the directors onto the managers which then it trickles down to the reps. You get care packages on a quarterly bases. Yelp as a company is great, the initiatives they have to make the job fun and the perks are unlike any other company I have known. While working remote from home was great, I was not allowed to work offsite at a shared office - more. This in my view is unacceptable and Yelp needs to properly communicate this with their employees. I've had first hand experience with this in the solar industry in the past and this company I used to work for was shut down by the FTC.Īlso, while Yelp stated that they pride themselves on an excellent work culture and balance, I was not allowed at times to take my Wellness days unless I gave two weeks advance notice. This in my view is a violation of Federal Law to call customers who request to be on DNC list. I was told several times to put them into Inactive Pursuit. Also, customers who requested to be on the DNC list never were put into the DNC list and sent back to us to call. While this did happen, at times we were pushed to make 100+ dials a day.Īlso we were given Stale accounts to call which never panned out. I had to switch managers in January because I wanted to grow and develop myself. While we were required to make 80 calls a day and manage up, I felt the ripple effect happening from Senior management and they started to crack down and micromanage me about my performance when in fact, I was meeting my quotas and performance requirements. I have 25+ years of experience in the advertising industry. The training was very impressive to me and I decided to stay on and give this a shot. Last year I was referred by an employee who had great things to say about Yelp. I enjoyed working with my colleagues at Yelp. I am writing this with total transparency and honesty. Start the day with a virtual roundup with my team and manager, start dialing, break for lunch one last roundup, then back to dialing. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Just amazing very inclusive and I know I have said it many times but so supportive your teammates, your manager, and directors all make you feel important and take time to invest in your growth! What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Really just making those calls, it is not as easy as it sounds, and some people are phenomenal month after month, making amazing money, but it is more of a sales job than customer service, which has been my background for 20 years so I have and continue to have to master the craft of making 80 dials/ day and master making it work to your advantage and the person u are selling ads What is the most stressful part about working at the company? You do have to really grind to be good or great even at a sales position with Yelp, but like I said very supportive managers who are willing to help and work with you to get better ![]() It is just a very supportive team atmosphere, the training at the very beginning and through t your career is some of the best I have ever had. What is the best part of working at the company? ![]()

India ink and watercolor paintings11/28/2023 ![]() Another route would be to first fix the India Ink with a couple coats of Archival Varnish, thereby locking it in and providing a barrier that protects it. Obviously using a different ink, as the tests above show, might be one solution, although each ink would need to be tested beforehand and the character of the drawing would likely need to change. In terms of what one can do, there are a couple of options. ![]() And in a case like this, if one imagines a drawing in India Ink being over painted with acrylics, the consequences could spell irreparable ruin. Any surprise is simply caused by the fact that we think of acrylics so strongly as water based that other factors, like ammonia sensitivity, might go unnoticed. So, what is happening? As it turns out, while the India Ink is indeed ‘waterproof’ – in the sense that water alone will not cause it to run – it remains sensitive to the ammonia and other alkaline materials that can typically be found in acrylics, not to mention many household cleaners. Image 1: Testing inks on various substrates for sensitivity to GOLDEN Gesso, GAC 100 and QoR Watercolor. The surfaces we tried included Ampersand’s Gessobord™, Multimedia’s Artboard®, and Arches® 140lb cold pressed watercolor paper. This is something you can easily see in Image 1 where we tested India Ink, Sharpie® Permanent Marker, and Sakura’s IDenti™ Pen by brushing over them with our GOLDEN Gesso, GAC 100, and a wash of QoR Watercolor. All of a sudden what was waterbased seems quite water soluble, the sharp edges of the wash or line becoming easily liquified with barely any effort. The curiosity comes when you attempt to brush over the India Ink with any of our mediums, gels, grounds, or paints. Which, after all, is the common solvent for shellac, so not all that surprising. If you look at the many examples we show in the Just Paint article, Make a Mark, you can clearly see that the ink holds its own through a range of finger rubs and water washes, only becoming smeared when using rubbing alcohol. And one would certainly think describing something as waterproof is straightforward and plain enough to avoid confusion. Among the ones being tested was the tried and true India Ink – richly black, shellac-based, and solidly waterproof. ![]() Which is where we found ourselves a few years back when testing a variety of inks and how they perform on our various grounds, pastes, and mediums. Even the simplest description can set in motion assumptions that lead us to expect one thing only to be sitting there, moments later, head slightly tilted, a quizzical glance showing equal parts frustration and fascination. We all get tripped up and surprised sometimes. ![]()

C.d.c. eases guidelines home visits11/28/2023 ![]() ![]() The test-to-stay protocol has been an alternative to quarantine for school, so now "the practice of handling exposures would involve masking rather than a quarantine," Massetti said. The guidance eliminates the strategy known as " test-to-stay" – a schedule of testing for people that were exposed to the coronavirus but not up to date with their vaccinations – that allowed them to continue in-person learning, so long as they continued to test negative and showed no symptoms. The changes could have some of the biggest impact in K-12 schools. Covid-19 infections continued to broadly decline, as federal health officials broadened vaccination recommendations to include people between the ages of 12 and 15. data, it's around 95% of the population," Massetti said, "And so it really makes the most sense to not differentiate," since many people have some protection against severe disease. Marcus Plescia, chief medical officer for the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its COVID-19 guidance Thursday to ease recommendations for people who are unvaccinated and have been exposed to COVID-19. The update isn't necessarily a huge overhaul of the existing guidance, but it does represent an increasing focus on individuals making their own decisions about their level of risk and how they want to mitigate that risk, said Dr. "We know that COVID 19 is here to stay," she added in comments during a briefing with reporters. "This guidance acknowledges that the pandemic is not over, but also helps us move to a point where COVID-19 no longer severely disrupts our daily lives," the CDC's Greta Massetti said in a statement. The revised guidance – released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday – lifts the requirement to quarantine if exposed to the virus, deemphasizes screening people with no symptoms and updates COVID-19 protocols in schools, eliminating a recommendation for test-to-stay after potential exposure. With the coronavirus continuing to spread widely throughout the country, Americans are getting new advice from federal health officials on how to live with the virus. The story is easier to follow and therefor the movie is more better to watch for a wider range of people then "2001: A space Odyssey" was. The sets look beautiful and the special effects also have improved a lot. While "2001: A Space Odyssey" was more a visual movie, "2010" actually has many dialog but that doesn't mean that the movie isn't visually spectacular. I believe that "2010" was made to tie up the loose ends and answer some of the questions that "2001: A Space Odyssey" left. Of course it comes nowhere close to the brilliance of "2001: A Space Odyssey", but I don't think that ever was the makers intension. ![]()
